Lower Buffalo Wilderness Cleanup

We will be going into the Lower Buffalo Wilderness on March 15th and 16th to pickup and bag trash from old hunter camps and house places.  This effort will help restore wilderness to a more pristine condition.

All helpers are welcome where you can day hike or spend the night.

The main locations to be cleaned up are 3 to 4 miles in.  This will be difficult for day hikers but day hikers can work the corridor paths and pick up what they can.

Overnight workers will meet at the parking lot below Hathaway Mountain.  Day hikers can go in at the parking lot or at Hathaway Mountain.  See attached map.

We will meet at the parking lot at 10am on Saturday, March 15th.

·       Park Service will provide the bags for trash.

·       Horse rider groups will haul the trash out on March 29th.

·       Workers should bring gloves and eye protection

·       We will camp close to where we are working

·       We will work Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning

·       We will walk out Sunday afternoon

·       We will not carry any trash out.

·       Everyone is on their own for food.

·       Water is very close but must be treated.

·       Canoers are welcome to float down to Cow Creek and hike up to meet us.

Call or Email me for other details.  We can work out how you can help.

This is great way to pay back what wilderness has done for us.
