Trail Building Opportunities

UPDATE 2/12/2010:

More Trailbuilding Opportunities (Winter 2010)
To make up for work days lost to bad weather, Ken Smith has scheduled trail-clearing for additional Saturdays, so that, weather allowing, trail work will take place on February 20, March 6, and March 13.
Volunteers are to meet at Harps Supermarket on U.S. 65 in Marshall by 9:30 a.m., to carpool to the work area. Wear work clothes and hiking boots and have a daypack with lunch and drinking water. The National Park Service provides trail tools, but anyone having a chainsaw, and knowing how to use it safely, is welcome to bring the saw.
If you have questions contact Ken Smith, (501) 443-4098, trailsmith1@yahoo.com.

From November 2009 till March 2010, trail volunteers will have opportunities to clear more of the Buffalo River Hiking trail route for future construction. Here are the initial work dates:

·         Sat., November 21--Meet by 9:30 a.m. at the Grinders Ferry parking area off U.S. Highway 65 just south of the Buffalo River bridge.

·         Sat., Nov. 28--Meet by 9:30 a.m. at the Grinders Ferry parking area.

·         Sat., December 12--Meet by 9:30 at Harps supermarket on U.S. 65 at Marshall.

The work will be raking leaves along the trail route, digging some level footpads where needed to cross steeper slopes, and cutting bushes and small trees. Wear sturdy footwear and work clothes, have work gloves, and bring a daypack with lunch and drinking water.

The National Park Service provides work tools. If you have suitable tools of your own, coordinator Ken Smith says, feel free to bring them;  if you have a chainsaw and know how to use it safely, please bring it! But please leave pets and rain at home.   If you have questions contact Ken Smith, (501) 443-4098, trailsmith1@yahoo.com.
