Steven Paul Noland

Steven Paul Noland, 68 of Fayetteville, Ark., passed away Wednesday, March 28, 2018 in Fayetteville. He was born June 18, 1949 in Ithaca, N.Y., to Dr. Paul and Eunice (Hazenfield) Noland.

Steve was raised in Fayetteville and attended the Fayetteville Public Schools graduating from high school in 1967 where he was a member of the football team. He attained the rank of Eagle Scout through Troop 77 and attended the Philmont Camp in New Mexico. He graduated from the University of Arkansas in 1972 with a degree in Animal Science where he took classes from his father. While at the U of A, he was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity where he became known as “Nasty” Noland. Steve was also Santa Claus at Campbell Bell Department store during his college years.

Upon graduation Steve worked in the animal feed service industry in Central and Northeast Arkansas eventually working for TENCO in Pocahontas, Ark., overseeing their swine operation. He returned to Fayetteville in 1984 and was employed by Farm Bureau Insurance as an Insurance Agent until he passed away. He made the most of his spare time volunteering on numerous service oriented efforts including serving as a Scout Master for two separate troops in Fayetteville and Pocahontas, serving on both the United Way Local Board and their Foundation Board, Holiday Hoops Basketball Tournament in Fayetteville, member of the Kiwanis Club in Lincoln, Trees for Township in Fayetteville where he coordinated efforts to plant the trees, Friends of the Buffalo, Ozark Society, and a member of the Arkansas Pork Producers. Steve was a life-long member of Central United Methodist Church where he ushered and served on several committees.

He is survived by his wife Barbara, one son, Heath Noland and his wife Ashley of Rogers, Ark., one daughter, Hillary Sutherland and husband Matt of Independence, Kan., three brothers, Stewart Noland and wife Debbie of Little Rock, Ark., Robert Noland and wife Marilyn of Johns Creek, Ga., Brian Noland and wife Ann of Fayetteville. His seven grandchildren, Titus Shaver, Audra Shaver, Justus Shaver, Annelise Shaver, Max Sutherland, Miller Sutherland, and McGuire Sutherland fondly called him “BIG”. He also leaves numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held Friday, April 6th at 11am at Central United Methodist Church Activities Center in Fayetteville with Reverend Carl A. Owenbey officiating. Visitation for family and friends will follow. A private interment service will be held at Fairview Memorial Gardens in Fayetteville.
