The Long Ridge is a bluff line in the NE area of the Hurricane Wilderness. Near Cowell, in the middle of the bluff is a slot crevasse like you find out west. This is a bushwhack, but the undergrowth should still be minor as we walk along the ridge. If conditions are bad, we will opt to visit nearby Pedestal Rocks. Four times each year, Chimp Haven opens its doors for a morning full of chimpanzee discovery! Observe chimp families in their forested habitats Hear chats from our expert staff about chimp behaviors, veterinary care, enrichment, and more Learn about life at sanctuary at interactive stations Take a behind-the-scenes “hay ride” style tour (optional; additional ticket required) Admission for Chimpanzee Discovery Day is: $10 for ages 6 and older FREE for ages 5 and younger Tickets may be pre-purchased online (via the top right of this page) until 3 p.m. the day before the event, or purchased in person at the admissions gate. CANCELLED DUE TO COVID-19. Meet at Kyles Landing Campground at 9:00 am to shuttle to the upper parking area to start. Rated strenuous, a very rugged 6-mile bushwhack to some of the most beautiful country along the Buffalo River, including waterfalls and unique geologic formations. This is mostly a downhill trip.
