Hiking Distance: 4.25 miles

Elevation Difference: 785 foot ascent

Rating: Because we are bushwhacking it is rated difficult

Features: This hike features beautiful multi tiered waterfalls.  See description in Tim Ernst 2011,  Arkansas Waterfalls (2d Ed.), pp. 202-203.

Meeting Place and Time:

  • Meet for carpooling for an 8: 30 departure at First Care Medical Center South (2523 E. Huntsville Road) intersection of AR Hwy 265 (Crossover Road) and AR Hwy 16 (Huntsville Rd) in Fayetteville, or
  • Meet at the Oark Store on AR Hwy 215 in Oark AR at 9:30 am
  • Note 1:  High clearance, 4WD vehicles are highly recommended.
  • Note 2:  Participants coming from AR Hwy 16 (i.e., from the north) should turn south on Arbaugh road 2.6 miles west of Fallsville and follow the directions in the waterfall book for the falls using the mileage in the books (page 202 Arkansas Waterfalls 2nd edition).  Follow Arbaugh Road 6.3 miles south and turn right/west and go 0.9 miles, turn left onto FR#1548, go 0.9 miles and park on the left just past where the Ozark Highlands Trail crosses the road. The road numbers don’t always match.

 

Comments:  Bring water, lunch, rain gear, gloves, and wear hiking boots. Bushwhacks are non-trail hikes which are generally more difficult than trail hikes. If you have never done a bushwhack hike, contact the hike leader first to find out about the challenges of the hike. No pets are allowed on any hikes, and children under 12 years are discouraged. Participants are required to sign a “liability release” http://www.ozarksociety.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/OS-Sign-Up_Sheet_rev4.pdf to take part in any Ozark Society outing. Everyone is welcome to hike with the OSHC, whether an Ozark Society member or not.
