Name of Hike: BRT-OHT Trail Extension: Red Bluff Road to Rocky Creek via Wilson Point
Location: Ten miles downstream from Tyler Bend and US Hwy 65 on the Buffalo River; or, 9 mi north of Marshall AR at the Red Bluff Road Trailhead on the new 28-mile extension of the Buffalo River Trail.
Type of Hike: Dayhike, trail, there-and-back return hike, no-shuttle
Hiking Distance: 6.0 miles
Maximum Elevation Difference: 250-350 ft, mostly gradual inclines
Rating: Moderate due to distance; hike is on maintained trail with good tread; mostly gradual elevation gain/loss
Features: This hike takes in a section of the new 28-mile extension of the Buffalo River Trail-Ozark Highlands Trail (BRT-OHT) between US Hwy 65 (Grinders Ferry) and AR Hwy 14 (Dillards Ferry). From the trailhead on Red Bluff Road, we hike downstream (east) to Rocky Creek, and then backtrack upstream (west) to the Red Bluff Road trailhead. Along the way, we leave the BRT-OHT to follow a spur trail to a gravel bar on the river at Wilson Point. Red Bluff Road to Rocky Creek by trail is only 2.0 miles one-way, but it covers River Miles 104-108. More info can be found in Ken Smith’s new Buffalo River Handbook, 2d ed., pp. 400-402.

Meeting Place and Time (Saturday April 20, 2019):
- Meet at Root School on Mission Blvd in Fayetteville for carpooling for a 7:30 a.m. departure; or,
- Meet for a quick stop at the King’s River Country Store in Marble AR at 8:15 a.m., or
- Meet at the Harp’s Food Store/Deli parking lot on US Hwy 65 in Marshall AR at 10:00 a.m., or
- Meet at the Red Bluff Road trailhead at 10:30 a.m.
Driving Distance: At 123 miles from the Fayetteville carpool to the trailhead, this is one of the longest drives we make for an OSHC dayhike. The final 3.7 mi to the trailhead are on gravel road suitable for 2WD low-clearance vehicles.
Comments: Bring water, lunch, rain gear, bug spray, gloves, and wear hiking boots. No pets are allowed on any hikes, and children under 12 years must be accompanied by a guardian. (Optional: Bring water shoes if you are interested in exploring and/or crossing Rocky Creek).
