Day, Date: Saturday, April 27, 2019
Name of Hike: Ozark Highlands Trail (OHT)—Eldridge Hollow to Arbaugh
Location: Ozark National Forest north of Oark AR, Milepost 64.6 to 70.0 of the OHT.
Type of Hike: Dayhike, established trail, with an 8-mile round-trip car shuttle at the beginning of the hike.
Hike Distance: 5.4 miles
Maximum Elevation Difference: 500 ft
Rating: Moderate, due to distance and elevation gain.
Features: This hike is in a remote, scenic area which follows the OHT between elevations of 1750 to 2250 ft. From west to east, the trail drops into Eldridge Hollow and makes its way around Arbaugh Mountain before passing through Lynn Hollow where it passes Lichen Falls (28 ft) and other features such as streams, emerald pools, and bluffs. Meeting Place and Time:

  • Meet at First Care Medical Center South parking lot, intersection of AR Hwy 265 (Crossover Rd) and AR Hwy 16 (Huntsville Rd) in Fayetteville for carpooling and an 8:15 a.m. departure; or,
  • Meet at 9:30 a.m. at the intersection of AR Hwy 16 and Arbaugh Road (CR 5261/FR 1409) which is 7.9 mi east of Red Star
    AR, or 2.6 mi west of Fallsville AR. The intersection may be unmarked, or it may have a small sign “To Oark” going
    south. The Arbaugh trailhead is three miles south of AR Hwy 16 on Arbaugh Road.

Driving Distance: One-way driving distance from the Fayetteville carpool to the AR Hwy 16/Arbaugh Road intersection is 55 miles.
Comments: Bring water, lunch, rain gear, gloves, and wear hiking boots. No pets are allowed on any hikes, and children under 12 years must be accompanied by guardian. Participants are required to sign a “liability release”
