Ragtown Road Trailhead to Spirits Creek Loop on the Ozark Highlands Trail, Hike Leader Brenda Brown, 4 miles, moderate. (AKA:  Brenda Brown Birthday Hike).

 

Name of Hike: Brenda’s Birthday Hike, Ragtown Road to Spirits Creek Loop

Type of Hike: Trail and some bushwhacking’

Distance: 4 miles

Rating: Moderate due to some elevation gain and loss, maybe wet creek crossings

Features: This is a lovely section of the Ozark Highlands Trail. We will follow the trail for awhile, then bushwhack off to visit the falls and follow the trail back to the cars. The plan is to tailgate at an old CCC day use campground after the hike.

Meeting Place and Time:

  • Meet at First Care Medical Center South parking lot, intersection of ARHwy 265 (Crossover Road) and AR Hwy 16 (Huntsville Rd) in Fayetteville for carpooling and a 9:00 departure, or,
  • Meet at Turner Bend Store (2 miles south of Cass) at 9:45 am

The Trailhead is 7.3 miles from the Turner Bend Store on a dirt road. There is not a lot of parking at the trailhead so hikers will need to assemble in as few cars as possible.

Comments: Bring water, lunch, rain gear, gloves, and wear hiking boots. Bring a towel, water shoes (tennis shoes, sandals) and extra socks in case of wet feet. No pets are allowed on any hikes, and children under 12 years are discouraged. Participants are required to sign a “liability release” http://www.ozarksociety.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/OS-Sign-Up_Sheet_rev4.pdf to take part in any Ozark Society outing. Everyone is welcome to hike with the OSHC, whether an Ozark Society member or not.
