We will meet at McDonalds off Pines road. Big parking lot behind McDonald’s. We will depart from there at 7:30am and caravan to Hwy 2517 west of Deadwood Tx; just East of Carthage. The paddle will be 15 miles of the scenic Sabine River.
Bring plenty of hydrating fluids your lunch and snacks, PFD, Sunblock, hats, sunglasses. etc…
PLEASE TAKE NOTE:
This will be a decently long paddle. It is 15 miles. There is nowhere to get off the river until you get to the takeout location. It can be strenuous paddle if you are not used to these conditions. It will be a long day. Preparation is a key in having a good time.
“The temperatures outside will probably very hot to say the least. Please BRING a very ADEQUATE AMOUNT OF HYDRATING FLUIDS TO DRINK AND PLENTY OF NUTRITIONAL FOODS TO EAT along the way. You will need this for energy and to help prevent dehydration. You will use burn lots of calories and sweat and lose bodily fluids. The intake of nutrition is vital in maintaining a healthy balance in such conditions.”
If you have any physical or health issues, please assess your abilities as to your limits. Bring any of your medications and emergency information in your packs.
Bring a Dry bag for your goods (car keys, cell phones, medications personal items etc.) Zippered coolers or zippered tote bag so you won’t lose you drinks or food in the water if you happen to swim accidentally. If you do swim it probably will feel good anyway to cool off. BRING ITEMS SUCH AS: Hats, Glasses, water shoes, sunblock, Long sleeve fishing shirt or pants to cover from the sun. You may go to places like Wal-Mart, Academy Sports, Bass pro, Dicks to find things that you may prepare your outings with. Frogg Toggs towel are a good idea to dip in the water and drape over yourself to help stay cool on hot days.
Most all BCOS members have paddled, hiked, biked and engaged in many other activities in many conditions. We are used to most elements but, we are always aware of our physical capabilities in many environments. It does take some time to build up to the physical demands of many types of outings and events that we attend. We prepare ourselves ahead of time for these events. The proper gear is always a good idea for setting yourself up for your outings..
