UPDATE (2/01) TWO SPOTS NOW AVAILABLE OR GET ON THE STANDBY LIST. Spots have been popping open that are being filled by standby hikers.
Pulaski Chapter Outings Chair, Steve Heye is leading a backpacking trip on the John Muir Trail in central California the week of the Fourth of July. This outing is open to all Ozark Society members. The hike is 44 to 48 miles (optional 4 mile day-hike to Mt. Whitney) on this section of the world famous trail. The permit for our trip limits the size of our group to 8 people.
We will depart Onion Valley Campground on Monday, June 29 and do roughly 7 miles a day. This will not be a race, we will take our time and enjoy the stunning scenery over 7 days and 6 nights. Most folks do this hike in 4 days. A highlight will be a day hike on day 6 to the top of Mt. Whitney, the highest point in the lower 48 states.
This hike takes place above 9000 feet and portions go as high as 13,300 feet, even if you don’t do Whitney. Our slow pace should help you manage the altitude. We are planning details now and training for the trip. So if you are interested, please drop Steve an email to get on board: email@example.com
Steve has been leading trips for Sierra Club and the Ozark Society for over 30 years. He has lead group backpacking trips to the Grand Canyon, Grand Tetons, Pecos Wilderness and Paria Canyon. He is currently working on highpointing as many states as possible. Has currently done 41 so far. (Yes, this trip will be number 42.)
