Highlands Chapter Dayhike: Indian Creek Bushwhack (Ponca Wilderness-Buffalo National River)

This Saturday, probably rain or shine, Terry Fredrick will be leading a hike into the Ponca Wilderness and exploring Indian Creek. This hike is rated as being very difficult (and rugged) and beautiful. If you have any questions please call Terry. The meeting time is for an 8:00 departure from Root School. This week's hike: Indian Creek bushwack Day, Date:  Saturday, March 23, 2019 Name of Hike: Indian Creek Loop Location:  Ponca Wilderness, Buffalo National River near Kyles Landing Type of Hike:  Dayhike, Bushwhack Hiking Distance:  5.0 miles Vertical Elevation Distance:  900 ft Rating:  Very difficult due to absence of trail, stream crossings, undergrowth, scrambling over slippery surfaces and large boulders, scrambling up and down steep slopes which require the use of ropes, ascent of a vertical rock wall, crawling near and negotiating high ledges. Features:  This is a very difficult hike, but you will be rewarded with some of the most spectacular scenery in the Ozarks including the Eye of the Needle, Arkansas Cave, and impressive waterfalls.  There will be hiking on narrow ledges, much scrambling and the use of ropes in two areas.  We will hike from Kyles Landing up [...]
