The Pulaski Chapter of the Ozark Society meets on the first Tuesday of every month, except July, September, and December in Room 62 at Second Presbyterian Church, 600 Pleasant Valley Dr. in Little Rock, at the corner of I-430 and Cantrell Rd. Our social time begins at 6:30 pm and the meetings begin at 7:00 pm

Event Details

The first-ever Birding Festival of the South will be held in Hot Springs National Park, Arkansas October 8 – 10, presented by Visit Hot Springs!

Input is encouraged from birding enthusiasts about how the festival should be organized and things it should feature, with the initial meeting being held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, January 6, in Room 205 of the Hot Springs Convention Center.

“While all of us who live here are impressed every year by the huge variety of birds we see each fall, we here at Visit Hot Springs recognize that we need actual birding enthusiasts to tell us what we need to know about putting together the first-ever Birding Festival of the South for our city,” Visit Hot Springs CEO Steve Arrison said. “I live on Lake Hamilton, and my wife and I marvel at the number of different birds we see from our home each fall.”

John Simpson, president of the Diamond Lakes Arkansas Master Naturalists Chapter, said, “The Birding Festival will be a great opportunity to share seasonal Arkansas birding with Hot Springs’ famous hospitality. Join us.”

The Birding Festival of the South will be designed around the interests of beginner, novice and serious birders alongside cultural arts events that will be inspired by birding. The timing of the event will coincide with the annual Fall Migration, opening the exciting opportunity to see birds not native to Hot Springs. Bird watching is gaining significant momentum in the United States with participation nearly doubling in recent years.

A 2022 United States Fish and Wildlife Service survey found that 96 million Americans — more than a third of adults — participate in the activity, making it one of the most popular outdoor pastimes in the country.

The National Audubon Society reported that birding is a growing hobby nationwide, especially since the pandemic, and that U.S. birders are an impressive economic force, according to the latest federal data.🦅
