March is Arkansas Archeology Month and with this in mind we are taking the opportunity to learn more about the past indigenous peoples of Arkansas. Our speaker will be Gillian Steeno. Her talk is titled, “An Archeological Timeline: Material Culture in Arkansas.”
As usual, our meeting will be at First United Presbyterian Church in Fayetteville with social time at 6:30 PM, and meeting starting at 7:00.

Talk title, “An Archeological Timeline: Material Culture in Arkansas”
Ms. Steeno works with the Arkansas Archeological Society in the role of Society/Survey Liaison. Her position is housed at the Arkansas Archeological Survey Coordinating Office on Hatch Street in Fayetteville. Throughout the year, she helps coordinate and plan the Society’s major outreach events including the Training Program, the Annual Meeting, and Archeology Month. She received her M.A. from the University of Arkansas, with a concentration in Southeastern Archeology, and her B.A. from the University of Mississippi.

FYI: To educate, pique interest and shed light on the subject, the Arkansas Archeological Society and Survey are sponsoring many activities across the state this month. This Saturday March 23, from 11 AM to 2 PM the University of Arkansas Museum will be offering special activities, and experts will be available to identify your artifacts (no appraisals ). Sunday at 2 PM Hobbs State Park and Conservation Area will host a talk about research on Van Winkle’s Mill.
