Since Dee Jaye will be unable to lead the trip to ORHR this year, I’m going to do it for her.
This place looks like so much fun and I don’t want to miss out on the experience. Her original email
is copied below. For the most part, I plan to stick to her plan. A kayaking trip on Saturday morning and
Sunday morning using their shuttle service. I am sure we will meet up for other adventures too.

Chris has already reserved a primitive camping spot for us.
I recommend that you reserve a spot at the park ASAP, spots at our last camping destination filled up quickly.

The Bayou Chapter of the Ozark Society will host an adventure weekend on the Ouachita River near Mount Ida, Arkansas on June 18-20 This area is Rural So Bring all the gear you think you will need. Mt. Ida is the closest town. Items such as: Food and Drinks for on and off the river, snacks, sunblock, sunglasses, campgear, water shoes, dry bags.

Reservations need to be made for cabins and RV sites ahead of time.
Cancelations must be a week in advance for full refunds on deposit.
The public is invited to participate. BCOS members will be available to assist newcomers.
On Saturday, members will lead a paddle on a section of the Ouachita river. Participants will canoe/kayak in a group with a lead boat and a sweep boat at the rear to make sure no one gets left behind. For those new to paddling, experienced members will be available to offer instruction. Sunday paddling will be available also to allow paddlers more time on the river to hone their skills.
Tent camping, cabins and RV sites are available.
Campsites include tent space, table, lantern pole, fire pit and grill. Camping fee includes use of showers and toilets and the showers have warm water!
Primitive camping for three nights is $ 67.00 per campsite for 4 people after 4 additional $5 per person.
RV Camp spots are 3 nights $ 134.00
2 nights $ 89.00
Most all cabins run about the same but they sleep more or less people. You can make plans with your buddies and share a cabin to lower the cost per person.

Drive to Mt. Ida from Shreveport –
Directions From Mt. Ida, Arkansas
Take Hwy 270 W for 5 miles. Turn right on Hwy 298. Go 4 miles to Sims.
At the STOP sign turn LEFT onto Hwy 88 W for 1.3 miles.
Cross Fiddler Creek. Immediately turn left on Maddox Bend Rd. Turn left at the second road, Ouachita River Haven Rd
Directions From Mena, Arkansas
Take Hwy 88E on the North side of Mena.
Proceed 31 miles to Pencil Bluff where Hwy 88 and Hwy 270 meet and join.
Make a left turn onto Hwy 270. Go one quarter of a mile and turn right onto Hwy 88 E towards Sims.
Go 2.3 miles and turn right onto the second entrance to Maddox Bend Rd. which is located just before Fiddler Creek.
Turn left at the second road, Ouachita River Haven Rd.
Directions From Ft. Smith, Arkansas
Go South on Hwy.71 to Y-City, Arkansas (59.5 miles).
Get on Hwy.270 East. (Watch closely for the turn off onto Hwy. 270 East, it is easy to miss).
Stay on Hwy.270 East 23.9 miles and turn left at the Western edge of Pencil Bluff onto Hwy 88 East towards SIMS.
Go 2.3 miles and turn right onto the 2nd Maddox Bend Rd. Entrance which is located just before and beside Fiddler Creek.
Turn left on the second road to your left, which will be Ouachita River Haven Road.
Directions From Russellville, Arkansas
Go South on Hwy. 27 for 63 miles to Washita and turn right onto Hwy. 88 West and go ten miles to Sims. Continue on Hwy. 88 West for another 1.3 miles and make a left turn IMMEDIATELY on Maddox Bend Road after crossing the Fiddler Creek Bridge. Turn Left on the second road to the left Ouachita River Haven Rd.
