“All are welcome to attend the Little Rock Garden Club’s Flower Show, Green and Clean: A Watershed’s Moment, which will be open to the public on Thursday. March 12 from 2 -4 p.m. at the Country Club of Little Rock, 4200 Country Club Boulevard.
“The centerpiece of the show is an exhibit highlighting the critical importance of the Fourche Creek watershed to Little Rock and central Arkansas, and the many challenges it faces as well it’s the recreational potential.
“Since its founding in 1923, the LRGC has been committed to the beautification of our capital city, particularly with litter abatement. In fact, our club helped draft some of the state’s first anti-littering legislation in 1932!
“Columnist Rex Nelson, whose Southern Fried podcast about Fourche Creek was the inspiration for our flower show theme, recently spoke t0 our club membership and shared his view of beautification as a form of economic development. We heartily agree and hope that our efforts to make our capital city a better place to live are worthwhile and long-lasting. Our most recent contributions include funding the purchase of an additional litter boom to be placed in Coleman Creek, the creation of a native plant garden at War Memorial Park, and our participation in 1he Adopt-a-Street program.
‘Please feel free to contact the Flower Show Co-chairs Laura Doramus (ldoramus@hotmail.com) and Anne Speed (annewspeed@gmail.com) with any questions.
‘To borrow a phrase from the current anti-littering campaign championed by City Director Capi Peck, ‘Pick It Up, Little Rock.’”
