This week’s outing:  Boen Gulf Access in the Upper Buffalo Wilderness (UBW) to Magnolia Falls and Boen Gulf Branch Creek, Saturday, April 17, 2021

Name of hike:  Boen Gullf Access to Magnolia Falls, Woods Boy Falls, and Boen Bulf Branch Creek

Day, Date:  Saturday, April 17, 2021

Type of hike:  Old road, well worn social trails, and bushwhack if you choose

Hiking Distance:  3-7 miles (estimate)

Elevation gain/loss:  up to 700 feet, but less depending where you turn back

Rating:  Easy to moderate to hard, you choose

Features:  This is a beautiful and dramatic area with waterfalls, wildflowers, huge rocks.  If you choose to turn back it is quite easy to find the parking area, the road we will follow is very well used.  We can all hope for a little rain this week so there will be waterfalls and wildflowers.  With this hike there will be options to turn back after visiting Magnolia Falls, or at the bottom of the bluffs, or at Branch Creek, or to go on a bushwhack to visit more waterfalls.

Meeting Place and Time:

  • Meet behind the Phillips 66 in Goshen to caravan/carpool for an 8:00 departure, or
  • Meet at the Kings River Country Store in Marble for an 8:45 departure, or
  • Meet at 9:30 am at the Boen Gulf wilderness trailhead on Co Road 1462 off of AR Hwy 21 south of Mossville AR.
  • Hikers may choose to caravan or to carpool with those they feel safe travelling with.

Comments:   Wear a mask and plan to social distance.  Bring water, lunch, rain gear, gloves, and wear hiking boots.  No pets are allowed on any hikes, and children under 12 years are discouraged and must be accompanied by guardians.  Participants are required to sign a “liability release” http://www.ozarksociety.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/OS-Sign-Up_Sheet_rev4.pdf  to take part in any Ozark Society outing.  Everyone is welcome to hike with the OSHC, whether an Ozark Society member or not.
