This Week’s Outing:  Sam’s Throne Dayhike

Name of Hike:  Sam’s Throne

Location:  Ozark National Forest, off of the scenic, twisty highway 123 outside of Mt. Judea

Type of Hike:  Day hike, on an old road and social trails under the bluffs

Hiking Distance:  about 4 miles

Elevation gain/loss:  about 550 feet of gain (that is what my app on my phone said)

Rating:  All Trails rates it at moderate

Features:  Sam’s Throne is an area developed by climbers, there are lovely bluffs to explore and from Sam’s Throne itself are great vistas of the area.

Meeting Place and Time:

• Meet at Root Elementary School, 1529 E Mission Blvd, Fayetteville, for carpooling and an 8:00 am departure; or,
• Meet at Kings River Country Store, Marble AR, at 8:40 am; or,
• Meet at the parking lot of Sam’s Throne at 10:15 am.

Driving Distance:  93 miles

Comments:  Bring water, lunch, rain gear, gloves, and wear hiking boots.  No pets are allowed on any hikes, and children under 12 years must be accompanied by a guardian.  Participants are required to sign a “liability release”  http://www.ozarksociety.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/OS-Sign-Up_Sheet_rev4.pdf   at the trailhead to take part in any Ozark Society outing.  Everyone is welcome to hike with the OSHC, whether an Ozark Society member or not.
